BAM!!!! SCOTUS decides

I don't have much time to blog at work, but I had to put this up quickly.

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Americans have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting, the justices' first major pronouncement on gun rights in U.S. history.

[...]

Justice Antonin Scalia, writing for four colleagues, said the Constitution does not permit "the absolute prohibition of handguns held and used for self-defense in the home."

Justice John Paul Stevens spewed some idiocy in dissent.

...the majority "would have us believe that over 200 years ago, the Framers made a choice to limit the tools available to elected officials wishing to regulate civilian uses of weapons."

Yeah, asshat. That's EXACTLY what the Framers chose to do.

Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man gainst his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American...

That would be Tenche Coxe... one of them "Framers" ... writing in the Pennsylvania Gazette in 1788.

I'm sure you won't be shocked to find out that the other dissenters were Justices Stephen Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and David Souter.

UPDATE: Text of the decision can be found here. I'll have to read closely and analyze when I get home.
