Cavalry Arms raided by ATF today

These folks are going to need a good lawyer, especially given the panty-crapping media stories that will come out of this in order to foment hysteria.

Witness...

A Gilbert business was raided by federal officials Wednesday on suspicion of fraud and money laundering.

Officers from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms took hundreds of guns from the scene, including AK-47s, assault weapons and high powered rifles.

The number of weapons could top 1,000.

Officials say Cavalry Gun Manufacturing was the target of a search and seizure warrant.

From what I'm reading on the Interwebz, it may have been the handiwork of a disgruntled former employee...

Take that for what it's worth. And think long and hard what a disgruntled former ANYTHING could do to your gun rights, your business and your life.

UPDATE: David and Ryan both have more info. Ryan wonders when fraud and money laundering became the ATF's purview, while David discusses some of the "digging" media maggots did in this case.

In general, I think it is a bad idea for a government agency to come in & confiscate the entire inventory of a business just because it has allegations that the ATF wishes to investigate. Instead, why could they not simply take an inventory of the inventory, take photo's, whatever, and then leave to go see if they can make a case? If & only IF the ATF then manages to prosecute some charge against the business a Judge can issue an order for the next steps such as taking away the FFL &/or the inventory.

The course of action taken here seems a bit backwards - confiscate the entire inventory first & then go see if there is anything the ATF can build a case on. What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

I don't know how much experience you have with the ATF, but they run by a very different set of rules...their own. I worked for two different Firearms Mfg (both Title 2) and had my own FFL for a while...it's not a fun experience in any way, shape or form. I really hate to throw around labels, but the ATF really is about as close to the Gestapo as anything since the real thing...good luck to Cav...I'm doing my small part and am buying some fun stuff in the morning from them!
