Rudy's epiphany

Rudy Giuliani apparently had a rude awakening (pun fully intended) after the September 11 attacks on America. He now loves... L-U-V LUVS guns!

Giuliani said his conversion was triggered in part by a court ruling striking down local firearm restrictions in Washington, D.C.

"It is a very, very strong description of how important personal liberties are in this country and how we have to respect them," he said.

Giuliani said "all that seemed much more powerful to me . . . sort of maybe even did more to crystalize my thinking on the whole gun issue in light of Sept. 11."

Really? Views crystallized after 9-11, eh?

Rudy Giuliani addressed a potentially troublesome issue with conservative voters, saying his policies as mayor to get handguns off the street helped reduce crime in New York. "I used gun control as mayor," he said at a news conference, "but I understand the Second Amendment. I understand the right to bear arms." He said what he did as mayor would have no effect on hunting.

Apparently, it was just fine to use gun control as a tool to supposedly reduce crime, even though a direct corellation between gun control and crime has never been established. And he felt that way just this last February.

Whom the hell does this guy think he's fooliing?

Of course the reaction from the gun grabbers gives me a warm fuzzy.

Gun-control advocates blasted Giuliani.

"Rudy used to be a straight shooter," said Paul Helmke, head of the pro-gun control Brady Campaign.

"Rudy has learned the wrong lesson. Since Sept. 11, there's even a stronger argument to be made to keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of criminals," Helmke said.

Of course, Paul! How about some damn box cutter control, you moron?
